Innovation

Technology drives performance

Construction is undergoing a digital transformation, one that focuses on innovation and one we started 15 years ago. By using the expertise of our digital team (in alignment with the Construction Playbook), we have embedded data and technology throughout our work, delivering benefits and savings in cost, time, sustainability, and quality to our clients.

Understanding a changing industry

Regulatory bodies, the government and leading organisations are prioritising innovative methods to create greater value in how works are delivered and safety standards are addressed. The government has issued key guidelines and mandates to this effect, including the following:

  • Building Safety Bill
  • Construction Playbook
  • Transforming Infrastructure Performance Plan

We are channeling these fundamental interventions through our own data-driven capabilities to refine our business model, prioritise net zero in project delivery, and increase information transparency for better safety outcomes.

Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)

We see tremendous value in MMC and the principles of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), which support MMC scalability. As adopters of off-site manufacturing and lean construction, we continue to move in step with the Playbook’s policies that drive innovation and MMC, through standardisation and aggregation of demand, increased client capability and setting clear requirements.

We embed MMC in our strategies for safely, efficiently, and sustainably delivering our projects. We are taking advantage of pre-manufactured off-site solutions to provide our customers with low-risk, repeatable results in controlled environments.

Industrialised construction through Connect Configurator

Industrialised construction (IC) combines digital construction processes with the scalability of MMC, treating construction as a commodity to increase speed, reduce risk, and achieve scalability - across the entire construction value chain.

We have embraced the spirit of IC, developing our own bespoke tool, the ‘Configurator’. A revolutionary web-based design tool where clients drag-and-drop from a catalogue of standardised components to virtually assemble their desired building. Clients can take an active role in creating their own building to their own specific criteria and vision.

BIM and digital twins

As the first Tier 1 Contractor to achieve Level 2 BIM certification through the BRE, we have been industry leaders in BIM for over 10 years. Our BIM solutions supply a range of benefits throughout design and construction, including the delivery of standardised solutions, clash detection, improved quality and the ability to maintain the ‘golden thread’. They support our clients through end user training and client familiarisation, and enable the operations, maintenance and assessment of the ongoing performance of the delivered asset.

Our ‘digital twin’ supplies a comprehensive solution for managing the asset, understanding operational carbon usage, and reducing whole life cost.
